Doug Van Den Brink New Jersey

In a month full of adversary, DVM scored their best finish to date in this past weekends
Formula Drift event at New Jersey’s Englishtown Raceway.

“What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.” If that saying is even a little bit true, then
DVM’s driver Doug Van Den Brink must feel a bit like “The Incredible Hulk”. First, the
team’s regular crew chief, Bobby Young, couldn’t make the event due to personal reasons.
Secondly, the car and all the equipment had to be in NJ three weeks early so Doug could
work-in a private practice day with friend and Formula D star “JR”, Vaughn Gittin Jr. Thirdly,
between the test and the actual event, the team used nearly every tool in their box as they
had to overcome more than their share of mechanical “challenges”.

“I should begin with a sincere “Thank You” to those that made it possible. JR Gittin for his
always beneficial advice, and to “Chip” and “Wheels” of Team Mopar for their help in
lending a hand with our car during and after testing, to my good friend and Coast Guard
serviceman Rob Gutzeit for his awesome assistance over the weekend, all the past and
present employees of Falken Motorsports for their unwavering support and last, but not
least, Doug Nagy from Street Wise who stepped in on a moment’s notice and crew-chiefed
our car,” team driver Doug Van Den Brink said. “Together we accomplished a lot and
without any one of them, our weekend would have stopped dead in its tracks”.

After a “modest” showing at Atlanta 5-weeks ago, the DVM team bounced-back with a 7th
place qualifying spot on Friday (of the 20 unseeded teams) and a career-best 17th finish on
Saturday (of the Top-32 teams in the series). This years Formula D series has proven to be
the toughest to date the team’s score of 89.88 out of a possible 100, would have placed
them nearly at the top of the charts just a couple of seasons ago.

“I have to say that we’re all very proud of our results this weekend,” Van Den Brink said.
“After all the trials we had to go through just to make it here, it says a lot about our
commitment to this sport. The double-edged sword of this deal is of course, that we are
right there, knocking on the door of the “Top-16” which is of course, where we want to be.
I think that if we’re able to find some additional budget that will afford us more testing-time,
we can really start to make an impact as the season heads down its summer-stretch”.
Next on the teams calendar will be July 11 & 12 as the Formula D teams spend a weekend
in “Sin City” for a midnight spectacular. Bring your coolers, its gonna be a hot one! For
