BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (April 18, 2022) – As advertised, we had our Torco Racing Lubricants/ JCM Motorsports 604 Crate car out this past Friday night. It was our first trip with this car to Moulton Speedway. This 3/8-mile track, up in the north Alabama countryside sits in Danville, AL and we really enjoyed our night there.

Lead by crew chief Cale Finley of CFR Performance, it was great to be back in the 19m JCM car. Having not seen this track before and with rainy weather off & on all night, it made for some challenging moments. As is customary with dirt-racing, there’s not a lot of practice during the night. I want to say we got 3 or 4 laps of practice before we rolled into our 2-lap Qualifying session. Still searching for the best line around the track, I managed to set the 5th best time which would slot me in, outside the 3rd row for the Feature Race.
With a small (by Crate 604 standards) field entered due to a lot of teams not wanting to brave the rainy forecast, the track official decided to forego the Heat Race and send all cars that qualified, directly to the Feature event.
With the Pole sitter, 2021 Crate Racin’ USA National Champion, Oakley Johns setting the pace, I slotted into 5th spot at the drop of the green flag and ran there until an opportunity presented itself to move up to 4th. The field got bunched-up during the race’s single-caution period for debris on the track and once we were back under Green, we held our position despite a charge from the 5th place competitor. In the end we managed to put a couple of seconds between ourselves and the 5th place car and we saw the Checkered Flag about 2.5-seconds behind the race winner Johns.
Being that the car came out of the Moulton event without any damage, we planned on making our way up the North Alabama Speedway on Saturday night but again Mother Nature showed us all that she was in charge and all tracks running the 604 cars canceled their nights activities. Weather aside, we plan to be back in action this next weekend. It’s looking very likely we’ll head back up to Moulton on Friday, while we look at other possible venues to run on Saturday night.
Please stay tuned to our Facebook pages for the latest event updates and we’ll see if we continue this upward trend going forward. Thanks for reading…
